Chapter 37. Back to the Mayor’s House

Seeing Zoey in Max’s embrace, Willow felt both relieved and weak. She ran to Max, and tears welled up again. Zoey turned her attention to Willow, the little girl still looking pale but happy.

“Is Uncle Max my dad?” Zoey suddenly asked Willow.

Willow glanced at Max, once again taken aback. She muttered to herself, “What kind of day is this? Why are so many shocking things happening at once?”

“Max…” Willow lost her words.

“I’m sorry, Willow. I’ll explain later,” Max said.

Shawn approached Max, and they talked while Kyler was being dragged in by Max’s people simultaneously. Once again, Willow was taken aback.

“What’s going on?” Willow protested.

“We have to get him to Cottonhill, Willow. All of you,” Max said firmly. He didn’t show a soft side but seemed authoritative and determined. “No one will be harmed, but I need everyone to be safe.”

“But your people strangled him!” Willow pointed. “I mean Kyler. What’s the meaning of this?”
