I could not ride quietly, let alone be on alert, after leaving my wife at the castle. Every part of me wanted to stay by her side to protect her and keep her safe from any danger that might arise. I also had the baby in mind, and the three of them, along with my unborn child, were now the most important things I had in the world.
I had never imagined having a family; most people told and prophesied my future as a lonely old man, damned and cursed for his cruelty and destined to a life of solitude and idleness.
