Karl rode to the front of the cavalry. I noticed he was wearing a helmet and armor without his characteristic shield.
“You’re disguised,” I said, almost growling. I didn’t like him taking so many liberties.
“I supposed you didn’t want to let me go with you because you were afraid everyone would make a fuss. Well, this way it’s easier. Don’t you think?” he asked, in his characteristic enthusiastic tone.
The shadow that had been in his gaze was no longer there. It seemed that all it took him was a few minutes to recover from almost being killed in a ritual by a monster, he was not a sensible or sane guy. He was useful to me at the moment and his idea was quite good.
