Chapter 48. Pregnant

I slid my hand down my belly, incredulous about what that man was saying. A pregnancy. I would never have imagined it. A smile was frozen on my face when I finished absorbing it. It was wonderful news; I had always dreamed of that moment when our union would bear the fruit of life between us.

When I looked at my husband’s face, I noticed his happiness. It was new, a facet of another kind; his expression was different from any other in his sad past. He was in a mixture of emotions, unconditional love mixed with surprise and, of course, the stealthy security that he would never let anything happen to him; he would always protect him.

“Are you serious?” I asked for the fifth time, trying to accept it; it was something so new and unexpected for me.

“Yes, Your Majesty,” he smiled, understanding my concern. “I have also prepared these for you…” He gave me a package, pointing to it. “Here you go, to help you regain your strength. You should reinforce your body.
