Chapter 30. The Union

The sun peeked through the opening of the teepee, signifying that the day had arrived. Chepi stretched with a small smile. She might’ve lost her father yesterday, but her new life was about to begin with Keme. For that, she couldn’t help but smile.

All the village women rushed over to help Chepi dress in a beautiful milky white colored buckskin dress with layers of fringe around each arm that draped down to the ground. The mid-section framed her waist with a colonial blue belt beaded with bone and silver medal. Her moccasins mirrored the dress with milky white fringe, and the women of the village had sewn a blue leaf onto the top of each of the moccasins. The oldest woman of the tribe helped Chepi put on the manta beads they’d also made for her.
