Chapter 36. A Whole New World
He awoke, but upon raising his head, a thickness overcame him. It grew into a radiating pain that surged throughout his entire body. The best he could do was try to force his eyes open. Blinking through the heaviness, he hastily scanned the surroundings before him to recall the night’s events. Alec saw her beside him, peacefully asleep, which slightly aided his memory of slashing through the cobwebs in his head. But in his machete-like attempts to force his focus, he failed. Where were they?
A shiver came across him, and he crossed his arms to protest the dankness. Trying to breathe past the chill, a musky scent that almost made him gag assaulted him. He adjusted himself to an upright position to ease the feeling and noticed an iridescent green and blue glow above him. As his eyes traveled a straight line, he could see stalactites and stalagmites going on forever. They were miles away from anything he could consider home. But why?
