Chapter 20. Creatures of the Night
After what seemed like an eternity, Valentina’s screaming stopped. The silence that followed was more frightening than her screaming.
“Eva, sweetness, open the door. It’s all over.” She heard the comforting voice of Edward coming through. His voice managed to break through her panic. Throwing the comforter aside, she ran towards the door and yanked it open. Outside, Edward was standing, hair disheveled and face covered with sweat.
He dragged Eva into his embrace. “It’s okay, you’re safe now. She won’t hurt you anymore.”
“Wait, where is she? You didn’t hurt her, did you?” she asked, trying to see past him.
“No, she’s fine. I should have hurt her, but I knew you wouldn’t like that. Joanna is with her; she is getting her to Eugenia. They will bind her memories of you. You don’t have to worry about her anymore. We are sending her far away from this place.”
