Chapter 3. Arrival at Destination

“Gotcha, stupid vampires. Do you think you will still be alive? Hell no!”

Inside the vacant and abandoned warehouse, in the heart of the city, just behind the tall glass building, were the secretive movements of the Council of Elites, glimpsing their targets nearby. Dr. Ted moved forward in the middle, while his son, William, at the back, stopped the Council of Elites from proceeding with their unacceptable crime.

Somewhat, Dr. Ted’s footsteps near them triggered the four vampires, and their fangs grew even more prominent while their eyes turned red and ready to attack them. However, it didn’t make Dr. Ted afraid of them.

“Who are you? And why do you want to mess with our transactions?! You should be out of this if you don’t want to be the next target of our El Capitan!” warned the tall vampire in the middle. “We will give you time to go, or if you dare to stay, then we’re willing to fight you!”

It made Dr. Ted smile while turning his gaze to the back. He had him and William as members of the Le Lune Group, as recruiting other people as part of them was too hard. They didn’t believe in werewolves and vampires and might laugh at them. Well, they were just pure humans who had an interest in them and wanted to dig for more information about them. He created Le Lune with a purpose.

“Did you think we would back out? No, we would rather help your victims and kill you instead!” shouted Dr. Ted and made fun of them. “You know what? In our eyes, you are that weak!”

“Since you are that hard-headed, we’re sorry to tell you we will attack too!” shouted back the Council of Elites vampires.

Dr. Ted instantly decreed William to storm with him toward the four vampires. Furthermore, William was beside him and both fought one vampire who attacked them. He used the combat ability that his father had taught him when he was still nine years old.

“Die!” shouted the vampire, who almost bit Dr. Ted on the neck.

Luckily, William had managed to kick that vampire. He went forward, moved the knife on his back, and stabbed the vampire’s heart.

“You deserved to die, asshole,” muttered William and looked at his father. “Are you just fine?”

“Yeah, I am fine. The Council of Elites members are expected to be that strong. We shouldn’t be shocked,” replied Dr. Ted, glaring at the other members who continued to fight on the side. “Look at the skills they have. That’s why your mother and your sister died at the Council of Elites’ hands.”

William exhaled and looked back at the past. Aside from the fact they wanted to end the mess that the Council of Elites made, it was because her mother and sister died. He had not bid goodbye to them as it happened unpredictably.

Dr. Theodore Davis, also known as Ted, had devoted his life to focusing on vampire behaviors. He always compared werewolves and vampires to understand their differences in terms of their traits and others. He graduated with an Applied Physics Major in Medical Instrumentation. Back in his college days, he immersed himself and continued to study the behaviors of vampires without thinking if they still existed or if nothing was left around the globe. Exploring them more profoundly pushed him to know Elena.

“Do you think vampires still exist in contemporary times?” asked Dr. Ted, remaining in his seat while his gaze focused on Elena.

It made Elena flip the book closed and focus on Dr. Ted’s stare.

“For me, I believed they still exist. However, like humans, there were good and bad vampires worldwide. Who would know the person I was talking to now is a vampire?”

A stunned Dr. Ted blinked twice, chuckled afterward, and thought it was only a joke.

“You’re a joker,” he retorted and relaxed on the side of Elena. “Well, I guess they evolved just by sucking blood from humans and making them survive for years.”

Elena was a local newspaper columnist and sometimes wrote conspiracies against vampires who would make a human their friend and, later on, betray and suck their blood. In short, she pointed out that almost all of them could not be trusted, but again, like humans, they just needed to be careful when approaching them, and it was up to anyone to make them friends.

Their same interest bonded them together and focused on that topic. With that, it ended them being together and married each other, and they had two children, Cindy and William.

However, a tragic day wasn’t expected to come that early. No one ever dared to think it would be Elena and Cindy’s final day when they went to a nearby grocery store to shop. Elena, at that time, pushed the cart toward the counter and patiently waited in line with Cindy by her side.

She moved her gaze down to level Cindy and smiled. “Are you fine, dear? You are too silent on my side,” she said and tapped her shoulder.

Immediately, it brought a smile to Cindy to make sure her Mom wouldn’t think she wasn’t enjoying shopping.

“Yeah, Mom,” retorted Cindy, and she glanced at the next person on the counter. “You should push your cart now, Mom.”

“Oh shoot. Sorry about that,” said Elena as she moved the cart.

As soon as she was done paying the clerk, she went out, pushing the cart until she arrived at the parking lot. Before they could reach their car, they stopped and heard a woman shouting nearby. It alarmed Elena, and for an instant, she saw plenty of men whom she believed to be vampires, and when she blinked, the vampires were already holding her hands, including her daughter, Cindy, who was being caught.

“Please, I beg you not to kill us! We haven’t done anything else to you and others!”

“We would not care about what you could tell, stupid humans,” whispered the vampire and bit Elena’s neck and sucked her blood before she could stop.

“Mommy!” shouted Cindy. However, no one could save her anymore.

Like Elena, one vampire had sucked her blood and made the two fall to the ground in unison, and she barely survived to confirm the theories to her husband, Ted.

William went back from reality as his mother and sister’s death made him weakened, and he still wasn’t recovered. He closed his fist and gritted his teeth while his jaw tightened. He moved near one of the vampires and attacked him rather than watching his father kill him.

“Let me kill that bullshit!” he shouted.

At first, Dr. Ted let him handle it and moved backward. William then used his strength, punched the vampire in his chest, and let him fall to the ground. Before he killed that vampire, his father had already moved forward and killed the vampire instead. Dr. Ted knew that William’s mind was floating somewhere and wasn’t in focus.

He exhaled and didn’t mind how his father interrupted his moment. He was curious about the vampire’s contribution to his mother and Cindy’s death.

“I’ll be heading out now; my mission here ended,” said William, and he went out of the old warehouse, leaving them behind.

His father shouted something, but he did not hear anything as he was already far away and went back to their home to do his research.

When he reached home, he went upstairs, opened his computer, and started researching Unity League and its mission. He stopped scrolling and let his eyes near the monitor, seeing the names Lucas and Arleth on the files that caught his attention.

“Sounds interesting,” he whispered and smirked. “I believe they had an important rule of that league.”

William believed that the League didn’t end, despite how old it was already founded. His instincts told him to find anything that would be linked to the Unity League. That was one of the reasons he joined his father’s group, Le Lune.

He stood from his seat and followed the written grave location on the blog he read, got paper and a pen on the table, then copied the address registered there.

“The landmark should be near the cliff of Mount Goldrush. Let me see what I can see there,” he whispered and moved out of the house before his father would arrive and stop him.

He used his car and drove towards the area using the modernized map he followed. It was far from the Metropolis, but he didn’t care about that. His trip was way more important than doing nothing and facing his computer. Within thirty minutes of travel, he stopped the car and moved out; he walked one hundred steps near the cliffs to see that grave.

At first, he didn’t see anything and thought it was written in fiction. However, when he stepped to the left corner, he saw clear ground with a flower on top of it. Not a typical grave he could find in a human cemetery, and he believed it was Lucas and Arleth’s grave.

He stopped and looked around. He was looking for someone. He stood near the cliffs and felt someone was visiting the area.

“Maybe I can find some members of that League visiting that grave. I am sure there should be one seen here…”
