Chapter 26. The Obvious
Brendon let the man stay silent for a few long minutes, so that he could have the memories of his late mother in peace. He spoke after a while, because he had an idea.
"Have you had lunch yet?"
"Sunday lunch is served later."
"Why don't you join me in a nice restaurant?"
Mr. Miles didn't disguise his look of interest.
"Why would you do that for an old man you don't even know?"
"Because I feel like I know you. It feels like we're related. I don't know if that feeling is because we've lived almost the same story, and we share the same obsession, but the important thing is that it exists."
"Then get out of the room so I can put on some decent clothes."
Brendon left the room and thought about it. What he had just said to Mr. Miles was no lie. He felt that this man was part of his family and his history. He felt closer to him than to his own father.
