“You can’t possibly believe that.”
“Look at it this way. We think it’s not possible. So does everyone else out there, and at the end of the day, there’s forty billion dollars wasting away in some tunnel because nobody grew enough balls to claim it.”
Teddy snickered. Smith could clearly see the wheels turning in his head. The man was a daredevil. He had the balls and the guts, and looking at him now, Smith knew he needed just to sleep on it and would decide he’d rather be in on a deal like that than have it on his record that he was a pussy and turn it down. Smith decided to nudge him a little.
“I’ll let you sleep on this,” he said, throwing his hands up in surrender.
“Does anyone else know?” Teddy asked.
“Not a soul. Unless Martin is alive somewhere and told someone else,” he replied.
Teddy nodded solemnly and turned back to his desk, fiddled absent-mindedly with the telephone, and then glanced at Smith, almost to ask if he was some kind of crazy
