Kalix’s eyebrows went up, and he slowly shook his head no. “I’m sorry, my King, but my father didn’t make very smart decisions, but the women he chose to have his children were.” He winked at the King and tipped his glass.

Chris and Caius were both shocked and looked at Kalix. He almost said that he was on the side of his mother and against his father and the King.

“Alpha Kalix, you are becoming more of a bother than a help. You’d better figure out how things work around here quickly, or I might decide that your pack would be better off with a new Alpha.”

“You can try, sir, but we both know that my pack can only be served by one bloodline. So let’s not play games and instead have a good breakfast.”

The King hit the table with his hand. “I can always find a way to undo what I’ve already done. Also, I know how to get you to behave.”

“You mean you know who to tell to keep me in line, and I can promise you that my brother is not so easy to control.”
