All morning, I was going crazy trying to figure out what was going on. When I left Elise’s room earlier, I knew I had to help my son, or everything would be over. Faye had been gone for too long, and Chris wasn’t in any of our packs very often anymore. I was giving up on my kids.

I saw Caius and Chris storm out of the dining hall, so I decided to follow them. I was shocked to hear Caius worry so much about the princess’ safety. How could he kill her if it upset him so much to think about her getting hurt? The gods wouldn’t forgive him or people like us.

I waited until Chris was done talking to Kalix, and then I pushed him back into the library.
