Chapter 20. The Other One
Carlos woke up one morning to the sound of someone sneaking around. Somehow, over the months of intensive training, he had developed a sensitivity to sound—suspicious sounds especially. He had never been a deep sleeper, but now it was as though he could hear sounds through the veil of sleep. While asleep, he could still notice the normal sounds of the night, but this time, something broke through the normal sounds.
He heard the tumble of the lock in the door, and that drew his attention enough to feel the presence. As soon as the intruder was close enough, without a second thought, his eyes snapped open, got a look at the shape beside him, and then his arms were moving.
He got the intruder in an arm lock, and in a matter of seconds, the person was pressed beneath him. His gun was out of the bedside drawer and tucked snug under the chin of the intruder. It was only then that Carlos’ eyes took in the face of the intruder.
He had seen this man before from time to time
