She was no longer sobbing, but her face was stained with tears as she sat on the floor, behind the door. She finally looked up at me and shrugged. “You two wouldn’t have broken up otherwise. He’s in love with you, I guess I wasn’t enough.”
“It’s not about that—“
“No, it is!” Maddie snapped. “It is!” She was on her feet now. “He left me after making me fall for him! He was the one who wanted a relationship, I didn’t! I didn’t even want him from the start! But he pursued me! And after—“ her breath hitched and more tears fell from her eyes as she sniffled, trying to keep it together, but she was already far gone. “After I fell in love with him, he left me. He abandoned me and said he wanted to work on himself. And all for what? For him to fall in love with you a few weeks later?” She scoffed, shaking her head in disbelief.
