Chapter 99. A Win Is a Win
This was money that I had risked a lot for when I used to work at that club. It was not stolen! But I just couldn’t get the words out as I stared at the girl.
Maybe because I was triggered seeing the girl who had slept with my boyfriend. Or maybe I was in shock because I had been caught. Or maybe—maybe I—I don’t even know.
Sometimes even I’m surprised how my mind and body works.
“I’m calling the police,” she said as she took a step back, pulling her phone out of her pocket.
“No!” I finally broke out of my trance, my heart pounding in my chest. I yanked her phone away and stepped back. “Please, no,” I begged her. “I didn’t steal the money, it’s mine.”
“Give me my phone back,” she said in a monotone. I shook my head, and that was when she raised her voice. “Give me my damn phone back, Sara!!”
