“Welcome son,” she greeted, a disarming smile sprawled across her face for a full minute and then it faltered when she saw how stoic my gaze remained. She places the glass of mocha next to me, taking an opposite seat as she examines me quietly, then she said, “You grew up so well.”
“Did you expect something different?” I sneered. She cleared her throat, sitting upright.
“No— I didn’t mean that… I’m just,” she paused, taking a deep breath, “I’m happy you grew up well.”
I give the apartment a once over, shrugging, “I had to.” I responded, bringing my gaze to finally rest on her. “There was no one who I could turn to. As you probably knew, Kathleen wasn’t that person, and Father was busy handling the company and miraculously hoping I became what he expected of an heir.”
