Chapter 6
Sapphire Watterson
Fifth Avenue buzzed with activity as the dusk of the looming night settled in. I made a quick stop at a confectionery store to buy a box of cookies before continuing on my way to my apartment. Ignoring the text message I had received earlier, I already knew who it was from, and if I guessed correctly, that person would be waiting for me at my doorstep.
My intuition proved right.
He stood there, arms in his pockets, casually leaning against a flashy car with its headlights still on. Taking a deep breath, I tried to sidestep him when he gently grabbed my arms. “Were you just gonna walk by like you didn’t see me?”
He wore his usual smug smirk that made me want to roll my eyes so hard they’d get stuck in the back of my brain. I shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “I didn’t see you. Hi, Josh. What are you doing here?” I forced a chirpy tone in my voice for the last part.
