Chapter 116. Missing Home

Rico waited until Calla had left before his hand went to his side, gripping the sharp ache there as a groan tore from his chest. The pain wasn’t as bad as before, because Dr. Jeffery had been summoned again, had restitched him, and ordered rest but it still burned.

Stubborn as he is, Rico got out of bed immediately after the doctor left, went down to his office, and made plans for the trip.

He let out a slow, controlled breath, head tilting back, and his eyes fixed on the ceiling.

“Lyra…”

Her name rolled off his tongue too easily. It tasted bitter. He gave a short, pained chuckle, anger flashing hot and sudden at her... and at himself.

Angry that she'd walked in like she lives here. Angry that he’d let her off so easily. Angry that she still held some kind of power over him.
