Chapter 63
Jackson's POV
I was yanked out of sleep by a terrible nightmare. I woke up panting, drenched in sweat, even though the air in my bedroom was cold. My heart was pounding so loudly it felt like it echoed in the silence.
I switched on the bedside lamp and sat upright, scanning the room like a man who had just escaped a bad memory. Then, my phone beeped. That familiar sound reminded me it was past six a.m. already… my alarm.
Dragging myself to the window, I yanked the blinds open. Daylight spilled into the room. I hoped it would chase away not just the darkness in the room, but also the deep emptiness in my chest. Only Vera’s presence could fix that.
I stood there, staring into the garden below, the same place we once made love for hours. That moment still felt fresh. It felt eternal.
“Vera…” I whispered, her name cracking something inside me.
She’s in danger. I knew it. The dream was more than just random images. It was a warning.
