Chapter 37. Danger

They came to the edge of a large deserted highway. There seemed to be a few cars abandoned by their owners. Drew gestured for them to rest there for a moment, and soon he was leaning his tired body against the door of a black van.

"Looks like we're safe," Drew murmured.

Elijah still sensed danger. "I don't think so, we'd better not stay here."

The other two Deformities scattered to check every empty car, whether they were looking for food, drink or something else, Elijah had no idea. Carefully, Elijah sat down next to Drew, glancing over at the man who seemed devastated by Rick's death. 

Elijah didn't know how close Rick and Drew were, but he could tell they were pretty close. 

"If I had died, Rick wouldn't have left me," Drew muttered to himself. "I'm a very bad friend."
