Chapter 144. The Safe
My heart stopped as I stared at the knife, the blood still dried on its bade, bringing back a flood of memories from two different instances in that same night; the first one being the night Nora was murdered, and the second being when I got home and had seen the knife in the corner of the room before forcing myself to go to sleep.
I stared at it, my heart pounding in my chest and tears filling my eyes as fear danced in my gut. But then after a few blinks, it was gone. Just like that, as if it had never been there.
It had been a few days since these hallucinations, so the fact that they were happening again already had me drained. I breathed in deeply and then let the breath out slowly. My heart was still racing as if I was being chased by wild animals.
