Chapter 145. Heartache

I dragged myself out of bed, my limbs heavy with the weight of everything I had to face. The sunlight streamed through the curtains, painting the room in soft gold, but it did nothing to warm the chill that settled deep within me. 

I decided on coffee. I needed to keep a clear head, though part of me was tempted to drown it all in the oblivion that vodka would provide. 

As I made my way to the kitchen, my mind wandered back to the safe. The sheer amount of wealth hidden away was staggering, but it was a cold comfort. No amount of money or jewels could bring back the people who were now out of my life or undo the damage that had been done. 

That was the sad truth that lingered in my mind; something that I needed to be reminded of constantly.
