Chapter 250. Fixing Things?

My heart lurched at the sound of his voice, and my body went rigid. I hadn’t heard him come in and had been way too distracted by the warm feeling that my mind had been filling me with. 

How long? How long had he been standing there? I felt the maid glance at me before quickly lowering her gaze, clearly anxious to escape the tension that had suddenly thickened the air. 

“I–I’ll leave you two alone,” She muttered, her voice barely audible as she hurried out of the room, practically disappearing around the corner. It was clear that she respected Josh, and maybe feared him too. 

I took a deep breath, forcing myself to stay calm. Josh was standing a few feet behind me, his presence overwhelming and suffocating. I could feel his eyes boring into the back of my head, waiting for me to turn around, but I wasn’t ready to affect him. Not yet.
