Chapter 277. A Lab Rat

I stood there by the stairs with my heart thumping in my chest as I waited for Josh to say what he wanted for us to talk about. He had a nervous expression on his face and that was not helping at all. 

In fact, that was just making me even more nervous. 

“Lisa, um…I heard back from Daniel while I was waiting for you by the office,” He began, running his hand through his hair but stopping and holding a handful of it for a few seconds. “He could not find someone who would be willing to do it willingly.” 

I let out a breath that I did not know that I was holding. I honestly thought it would have something different. I don’t even know what I thought it would be, but yeah, that was how I felt. 

“Oh,” I replied softly as I touched the bridge of my nose, brushing my thumb against it lightly in the process. “But there was money offered, right?” 

He nodded. “Yes, good money too. Half a million dollars, Lisa.” 

I made a small sound wi
