“What’s the order?”
I heard what Jack said, but I was too far in thought to respond immediately. I had to first pinch myself back to reality.
“Dahlia?”
“Yes…ermm… What was your question again?”
“Are you okay?” he asked, concerned.
“Yes, of course. The order, right?”
“Hmmmn, hmmn.”
“Oat milk latte.” I had to take a look at the board in my hand to confirm. “Yes, oat milk latte. Two of them.”
“Get yourself together.” Jack said before leaving me behind the counter, staring blankly at the board while the same order blinked for the fourth time.
I should’ve been focused on work, but my mind refused to stay still. No matter how many cups I brewed or how many receipts I printed, one question kept replaying in my head like a broken record.
