Chapter 30

The sun was just rising when there was a knock on Julie’s bedroom door. “Come in,” she called out through a yawn. The door opened, and she saw Chloe and Ryan, already dressed in fresh clothes that the merfolk must have given them and ready to go with their backpacks on.

“What time is it?” Julie asked frantically. “Are we running late?” She looked over at the clock on her nightstand – 9:15 am. I should have woken up earlier. I’m holding us up, she thought.

“Rise and shine, sleepyhead,” Ryan teased in a singsong voice. Chloe giggled.

Julie wildly jumped out of bed and stretched. “How long have you two been up?” She asked, a hint of accusation in her voice. She was a little mad that the two of them were all ready and didn’t wake her earlier. Are they planning our next move without me? Why are they leaving me out? I’m the one with the power to use the wand. Shouldn’t I be leading us through all this? H
