Chapter 37
“You made it,” I waved at him when he got off. I embraced him, and in my peripheral view was Vince. I wanted to ignore him, but Louis said hi to him.
“Glad you came,” Vince gave the nod and walked away.
“Did I miss the program?” he said.
“No, you’re perfectly on time.” He held my hand, and I led him to the gymnasium, where Lisa and Leon gathered available students and faculty to join us since it was their lunch break.
The program was successful, and tears were shed by Mr. Ramirez’s former and current students. A few faculty members made a few speeches for him, and some almost made Mr. Ramirez teary-eyed, but I know he held his tears so bravely.
Before the program ended, Mr. Ramirez thanked us and the generous sponsor, Louis. I was glad they could finally meet, and we all celebrated the rest of the day.
I rode in Louis’ car, going back home to the city, while others rode in Joshua’s car. Vince rode in his own car.
