Chapter 13

Zayla noticed how Kayden was fidgety while she was walking back from the restroom. He has been like this ever since they finished their food. Or more specifically, after he got that absent-minded look for a few seconds as if his soul was someplace else and only his body was sitting with her on the table.

“Earth to Kayden? Are you sure you’re okay?” Zayla playfully snapped her fingers close to Kayden’s eyes which were staring at something on his empty plate.

“What? Yeah, sorry. I was just thinking.” He shook his head and drank his remaining water as if he could drown his thoughts.

“We all think. But you, mister, seem to be thinking something way too deep. A penny for your thoughts?” Zayla asked, trying to play coy, hoping it could get Kayden to loosen up.

“All right, all right. I’ve been meaning to ask you. No, to beg, if I have to.” Kayden sat up straight and leaned back on his chair, his eyes now focused on Zayla’s face, awaiting her reaction.
