Taylor’s POV

The next morning, as the sunlight streamed through my window, I woke up to the soft chime of my phone receiving messages. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I reached over to pick it up and was surprised to see numerous notifications and missed calls from Grant.

My heart skipped a beat as I read his messages.

“Taylor, I am so sorry I couldn’t make it to your birthday celebration last night. There was a family emergency that I had to attend to. I wanted to call you so bad, but circumstances didn’t allow it. Please forgive me.”

I felt a mix of relief and concern flood over me. Relief because I now knew the reason behind his absence and concern for whatever had happened within his family that required his immediate attention. I quickly dialed his number and held my breath as I waited for him to pick up.
