Adrian's POV

She looked so pretty cooking and laughing with Mom as they made food in the kitchen. The way her guard was up, even though Mom was being nice and accommodating, made me realize she'd been hurt, and it would take a lot to get her to open up to someone.

"And yet, you planned to hurt her again? Come on, man, just how stupid can you be?" Daxon growled in my head, and I sighed in sadness.

"I don't want to, buddy. I really don't want to hurt her, too, but you know what happened the last time we trusted a rogue. You know what happened the last time I decided to see kindness in one of their kind. I almost lost you, too, Daxon. I can't let that happen again," I said into the mindlink, and that made Daxon even angrier.
