Chapter 21
Lola's POV
I felt so hollow and empty. I thought I couldn't be affected by whatever he says or does anymore, but was I wrong? I could not properly hear what was going on around me. All I heard was echoes and distant sounds.
"Lola, Lola, can you hear me?" I heard someone calling out to me distantly and tried to reply, but I could not. It felt like my lungs were being crushed, and I could not even cry out for help.
I suddenly took in a large gulp of air and came back to the present. Jace was kneeling beside me with a worried look on his face. I did not remember how I reached the floor nor how long I'd been out of it, but the look on his face made me realize that it was bad.
"Lola, can you hear me now? Do you recognize me?" He asked worriedly, and I laughed. I really laughed in that situation.
"Why do you look so worried, Jacey? I'm fine." I smiled at him, and he ran his hands through his hair in frustration.
