Chapter 128. Tutoring
Leah’s POV
Jake raised his hands in surrender, a lazy grin still on his face. “Alright, alright. Serious mode, activated.” There was softness and some humor in his tone. But even as he said that, I could see the struggle in his eyes, the kind of exhaustion that didn’t come from school, but from life itself.
He opened his notebook, flipping through messy pages filled with half-done assignments and crude sketches in the margins. “So, where do we start?” It was clear that he had not been doing much.
“Math,” I said, already pulling out the worksheets from the totebag that was still on my shoulder. “That’s one subject that a lot of people struggle with. And I have to confess that I used to struggle with it too.”
Jake winced dramatically. “And here I thought that you were the smart one.” He made himself more comfortable on the bed. “If you’re struggling, then there is no hope for me.”
