Leah’s POV

I stared at him, waiting for the answer that seemed like it was not going to come. But that didn’t mean that I should give up, did it?

“Why is my mom at the hospital?” I asked once more, standing by the door.

He stared back and then after a few seconds, he sighed. “We will talk about it later, please.” He turned away and started heading for the closet.

“What do you mean by we will talk about it later? This is my mom we’re talking about. You of all people should know that she’s all I have left.” My voice cracked a bit at the end. 

He stopped in his tracks. Then he turned and walked towards me. When he had closed the distance between us, he stopped, staring right into my eyes. “I am begging you, Leah.
