Leah’s POV

I watched the woman walk towards the door, but before she could open it, she turned to me and said, “But maybe you can still get out of all this. You don’t have to rot in prison for what Rafael did, you can be by your mother’s side; but only if you’re able to let go and detach from what your heart wants.”

“You have no idea what you’re asking me to do,” I replied, my heart feeling very heavy again. 

“Oh, I do.” She flashed me a small smile. “I’m asking you to put yourself first. I’m asking you to choose your mom over Rafael. You have not known him for a month or two, honey. Don’t make the worst mistake of your life.”

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. I watched her leave the room, and I was left alone again; left with so many thoughts, but with less questions because now I understood so much.
