Chapter 20. Surprises

Leah’s POV

“Kill her…” The words licked my ears and I literally thought that I had heard the guy wrong. But then he repeated it again, but this time, he added something else; the identity of the person he wanted dead. “Kill my mom and you will be free.” 

I pulled away, my heart skipping a beat. Was this some kind of sick test? Was he trying to see if I would agree to do it, and then have me killed? I did not know what to think, but at the moment I could not trust a word out of his mouth. 

I swallowed hard and played with my fingers nervously. “I don’t understand,” I replied. But that was a blatant lie because I did understand. I did understand the words he had spoken to me. Yes, English was the only language I could speak, but that was what he had spoken.
