Chapter 38. Risks
Leah’s POV
Midnight.
The clock had struck twelve, letting me know that it was now midnight. I had been watching it for half an hour now, not even daring to peel my eyes off.
It was almost as if I was scared that time would run away from me if I had looked away. But I knew that it was all just in my head.
It was all just paranoia.
I stood to my feet, holding the folded note in my hand as I turned my attention to the door. I think you can guess what my decision was.
I had chosen to do what the note said. I knew that it was going to be dangerous, that it might be the worst or last decision of my life, but I was not going to let fear or my nerves win.
At least not this time.
Call me stupid but I was not going to give up on trying to leave this place. I had already spent days here, and it still didn’t feel like home.
So even staying for months or years wasn’t going to change that.
