Chapter 108. A Desperate Kiss

Leila’s POV

“Luca, wait!” I called after him, my voice shaking, and followed him out into the garden.

He did stop, but he never faced me. “What do you want, Leila?”

I stuttered, being totally lost. The unsaid words clinging to my head bothered me, and probably he was right, a thought which just did not leave my mind. Yet somehow, I couldn’t stand the idea of his leaving this way when all was incomplete between us. “I… I don’t know. I…I don’t want to leave it like this.”

For a final time, Luca turned to me, his face distended with anger and frustration, but beyond that, the pain seeped through. “What am I supposed to say? I can just stand here and watch you fall apart for Dominic’s sake?”

I swallowed hard and took the sting in his words right on the chin. “I never meant it to get this complicated.”
