Iris’s POV

June’s mouth fell open. “You left your fiancé?”

“I...” I started, but she cut me off.

“Wait… Is he your fiancé? Or was your fiancé?”

“It doesn’t matter if it’s ‘is’ or ‘was’!” I shot back.

“We were supposed to get married! And I ran away just a day before our wedding!”

June exhaled, shaking her head. “You moved on, didn’t you? Why are you—”

“Moved on?” I turned to her. “His fiancée disappeared a day before their wedding! And all this time, I thought he’d been looking for me! But Oliver just told me he never canceled the wedding! Why?! Why would he do that?!”

June hesitated. “Were you expecting him to keep waiting for you?”

I let out a bitter laugh. “Are you listening to yourself, June? Are you hearing yourself? That means he was never the saint everyone thought he was! Theodore wasn’t a saint!”

I was so furious.

“Who wouldn’t cancel the wedding after their bride disappears?! Tell me! Who wouldn’t?!”
