Chapter 62. It’s Over
Adeline’s POV
“Why did you let her talk to you that way and get away with it?”
Rosa turned to me, looking at me angrily as I walked to the table that had some drugs we were both working on.
I didn’t stop walking. I kept my eyes fixed on the table, the one with the pile of medicines and half-filled records we’d been sorting through for some weeks before I even found out I was pregnant.
“I don’t understand,” I said softly, brushing a few bottles aside to make room, not daring to meet her eyes.
“She was doing that on purpose,” Rosa continued, stepping closer. “And I’m sure none of it even happened. I’m sure Theodore has—”
“He can do whatever he wants to do,” I cut her off, calmly, too calm for the hurt I was quietly feeling in my chest.
“Iris was just trying to get at you, to pull a reaction out of you,” she pressed on.
“Well... I don’t see whatever she was doing,” I replied, still not looking at her.
