Chapter 61. He Is Mine
Iris’s POV
“You’re my sister,” I said, smiling sweetly at Adeline, though the edge in my voice was impossible to miss. “And I trust your niece is safe in your hands. Isn’t she?”
I tilted my head, letting the corners of my lips curl into a cunning smile. I knew her too well. She wouldn’t resist. She couldn’t.
“I can s—” Rosa tried to speak, but Adeline was quicker this time.
“Bring her.”
Rosa looked at her like she wanted to protest, but Adeline didn’t even turn.
She just kept her eyes focused on me and Lila as she gently carried her from my arms.
“Come here, dear,” Adeline said calmlsy as she reached for my daughter. She picked her up with gently and placed her gently on the bed.
I noticed the wince. Subtle. Quick. But it was there.
And I saw how hard she was trying to hide it from me.
“It’s funny how I’ve sent you to the sick bed twice, isn’t it?”
Adeline didn’t even move or react like she heard what I said.
