Adeline’s POV
I just needed to clear my head.
The woods felt like the only place that could hold my heavy thoughts without asking questions.
So, I walked—alone, slow, with no particular direction.
Just the quiet trees, the hum of the evening wind, and my own heartbeat. There was peace here. Stillness.
A kind of space I couldn’t find in the hospital or among the gazes that followed me everywhere I went.
Before me stood two men… and two offers.
Theodore had arranged a dinner for King Ezra. I was meant to sit beside him, like his Luna. I still was, technically.
Nothing had been undone yet.
And then there was Ezra—his offer still hanging in there, unanswered. I hadn’t rejected him. But I hadn’t told Theodore I wouldn’t be at the dinner either.
