Chapter 143. Fading Into Darkness

Carl POV

I managed to slip out of the castle and into the rear end of the palace. The back gate was a few more feet away, and it was the only way I could make my way out of the palace, undetected. But there was an unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach, something that was urging me to leave this palace as soon as possible.

My strides grew faster as I crossed the large field that separated the back door, from the back gate.

As I kept a steady pace, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that someone, or something was following me. I could feel eyes on me, and that made all the hairs on the back of my neck to stand erect. As I began to run, out of fear, two large figures appeared in front of me.

I stumbled back, my eyes growing wide as they were fixed on the two silhouettes. Their face and body structure was finally visible to me. My heart dropped when I realized who they were.
