I took in the bustling crowd milling around the house, their laughter and chatter echoing through the grand hall. The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and the faint aroma of champagne. Turning to my mother, I said, "Mom, you didn't have to do this."
She waved a hand dismissively, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "What do you mean? Of course we did." She grabbed a glass of champagne from a passing server and pressed it into my hand. "You've been waiting for so long for your wolf. We are so happy for you. We must celebrate."
I glanced around, my gaze sweeping over the sea of unfamiliar faces. "Yeah, well… isn't this a little over the top?"
