Chapter 74. Running Out of Time

Ivy's POV

When I came to, my head was pounding as if a drum were beating inside it. My stomach churned, threatening to empty itself at any moment.

There was also an uncomfortable tightness in my chest. I reached for my chest—or tried to—but I couldn't move my arm. Or my leg. Or any part of my body. My eyes shot open in panic. What was happening to me?

"Ah, you're awake," came a familiar feminine voice dripping with malice.

Lana appeared in my line of sight, her red lips stretching into a cruel smile. "How do you like the taste of wolfbane?"

Wolfbane? Had she poisoned me with wolfbane? That explained the symptoms I was experiencing.

She reached for my chin, her touch making my skin crawl. I wanted to free myself from her grasp, but I felt paralysed. I couldn't even move my head.

"It works so well, doesn't it?" she purred. "It puts puny insects like you where you belong."
