The Phone Call

A few weeks back, I decided to really start practicing my violin again.

When I picked it up, it was like riding a bike. I found that I had never forgotten a single thing, except for the immense pleasure I got from making beautiful music.

The way the wood felt in my hands and the bow molded perfectly to my fingers, you would have thought that I had been playing all along. When I heard the first note, it was like the heavens had opened, and I smiled harder than I had in years. It was a good day because I had a sense of purpose.

Now, as I open the letter stamped with the philharmonic’s name and address on it, I feel anticipation course through my veins. I applied last week by sending my audition tape and resume to them, but I honestly didn’t think they would ever accept me for the position of concertmaster.
