Chapter 21
Hawa’s POV
Early this morning, I got up with Aunt Oumou, and we took care of the house. At dawn, the guard returned with a cow, which they slaughtered, and bags of rice that my uncle distributed to the poorest people. He was truly a generous man.
Around 10 o’clock, after the feast prayer, I took a quick bath and packed my belongings. The driver took me to Kesso Bah’s house, a lady as classy as she was beautiful.
I got out and paid the driver before entering the courtyard, where I saw her children playing in the distance.
“Hawa! So good to see you here!”
“Hello, Kesso!”
“Come with me and put your things in the guest room,” she said, leading me to a room where I placed my belongings in a chest of drawers.
“Hawa, let’s go and get pampered first.”
“Pampered?”
“Yes, do our hair and stuff.”
“If we don’t start now, won’t it take a while?”
“No, the meat is already marinating. When we get back, we’ll put it on the spit
