Chapter 44
Hawa’s POV
I almost instantly regretted what just happened. I blamed myself; I felt guilty. I turned around and curled into a ball on the carpet.
“Hawa?”
“We shouldn’t have done that.”
He forcibly turned me to face him and looked me in the eye.
“Don’t you think it’s a little late for regrets?”
“I know, but still. I don’t know what’s happening to me; this definitely wasn’t the normal reaction.”
“So what made you do it?”
“I don’t know, anger, the injustice of the situation, and…”
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. I wanted to get up and grab my clothes, but he kept me down.
“Hey, stay still. Don’t forget you locked the door.”
“Oh, that’s right.”
“Mrs. Diallo, I’m busy at the moment.”
“Okay, Mr. Haïdara. The delivery guy brought your lunch.”
“Leave it by the door.”
“I will.”
He got up and went into a small room on the other side. I hadn’t even noticed the door. I got up and joined
