Joan POV

Two Months Later.

“Goddamn it,” I muttered under my breath as I flipped through the files, checking each one. It was frustrating to have missed an important detail in a document meant for a client.

Brielle had pointed it out when I asked her to help with editing before she left for the day. Turns out I didn’t just miss a vital detail—it was several. And sure… no client would be impressed by that.

That’s why I was still in the office, even though it was already a couple of hours past closing. I was counting on Aaron to barge through that door any second now.

We’d returned from Spain a month ago, and though he insisted I stay home, I knew I needed to do something. I couldn’t just sit around the house “writing” all day. So I came back to work.

I acted like I had no idea Aaron had given strict orders to my colleagues and employees. So much for a girl just trying to fit in.

My stomach grumbled and I rubbed my bump lightly.
