“Hey,” I said into the phone, and Aaron flashed me a smile, pouring water into a glass and bringing it over.
I offered a small smile, sipping from the glass while he stood nearby, waiting.
We’d gotten home not long after leaving the hospital—because Aaron insisted we come back early.
“Hey?” Rhoda muttered, and I could practically hear her lips pursed through the phone.
“Jo? I’m surprised you called,” she said. I chuckled. We hadn’t talked much since the incident, but we were good now.
“Just wanted to check on you,” I murmured, and she sighed. Aaron raised an eyebrow before turning and walking into the kitchen.
“Things have been pretty good over here,” she said, and I pressed my lips together, unsure whether to tell her the news or not.
A deep voice rumbled in the background, and I immediately perked up. I recognized it.
“Is that Lucas?” I asked.
