Joan POV
I went to bed, curled up and draped the blanket over me.
My stomach churned. I felt sick.
It was real. Someone was out there — after me. My life was in danger. My baby’s. Aaron’s too.
We were in the house of a strange man, with no idea if he was a threat or not. If all of this was a plan. A trap.
Nothing. I was so fucking tired and sick to the bones.
Our house was attacked. If Aaron hadn’t gotten that call, we would have been —
I curled further into myself, as much as my stomach let me. I hated this life. Living this scary, unpredictable life. Not knowing what was next.
Not knowing what was out there.
I remained on the bed, just staring into nothing. Sleep eluded me — even that felt impossible without Aaron next to me.
